Burgundy in style but not in price. From

€156 delivered. Was €188. Save €32

Red or white, there’s nothing better than a really nice Burgundy. But unless you’re prepared to pay a small fortune, you’re always left wondering what a really nice Burgundy tastes like. Many of the affordable wines from the region just don’t live up to their billing and leave you disappointed.

These 6 wines from, 3 red and 3 white, are fantastic examples of great winemaking in the Burgundian style. And for this level of quality from eastern France you’d pay a lot more. And that’s before you take off the €32 savings on this offer.

We hope you like these wines. Please let us know what you think at

White wine details:

La Vella Blanco 2019, Valencia, Spain

A Merseguera led blend with more than a passing resemblence to white wines from southern Burgundy. Stone fruit (white peach), melon with creamy and nutty notes, a lovely rich mouthfeel and fresh finish.

Le Faite Blanc 2015, Saint Mont, France

An iconic wine - blend of Gros Manseng, Petit Courbu and Petit Manseng, it is almost gold in colour. Crisp and fresh with lemon-zest and apple and oodles of minerality. And then, as it opens and warms, comes tropical ripe fruit and a floral rose nose, followed by honey. Lees and oak aging contribute layers of complexity and a mighty finish – not unlike a great Burgundy. The blending process is by an open tasting session of journalists and sommeliers.

Jera Verdicchio di Matelica 2009, Le Marche, Italy

This 2009 vintage is drinking really well now. It is a mix of orchard and stone fruit – apple, lemon, apricot. Full bodied, creamy texture from barrel aging along with nutty, buttery notes. An elegant, balanced wine with a long minerally finish. Great on its own but perfect with food.

Red wine details:

La Ganghija Nebbiola d’Alba 2018, Piemonte, Italy

A benchmark Nebbiolo showing plenty of the trademark roses and tar – red cherry fruit with notes of liquorice and wild herbs. Fine grained tannins coat the wine but the fruit and the complex aromatics all make for a very satisfying and balanced wine.

Ulterior Garnacha 2017, Castilla La Mancha, Spain

A more sculpted Garnacha in the mold of Garnacha from Mendrida or Sierra de Gredos with ripe smooth tannins. The wine primarily shows red fruit, liquorice, truffle and some Pinot-like earthy development. Delicious with game and pork. Benefits from a short chill down in the summer.

Benanti Nerello Mascalese 2014, Mount Etna, Sicily

Made from 100% Nerello Mascalese, indigenous to Etna, this is a bit of a wolf in sheep’s clothing. It is light in texture but with surprising firmness and flavour. Earthy red fruit with long and intense minerality from the dark volcanic soil of Etna.
