Italy is blessed with a perfect landscape and conditions for growing grapes. The vines are always close to mountains, sea and hilly free-draining soils. Indeed many are volcanic and limestone based. The perfect place for making the world’s best wines?

This case includes some iconic wines including a Barolo from Domenico Clerico and a Masciarelli Marina Cvetic Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. Also in the case is a stunning Etna Bianco from Benanti.

Six wines that capture the brilliance of Italian winemaking.

Wine details:

Corte Adami Soave DOC

A crisp and linear blend of Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave. Lemon scented with flavours of pear and stone fruit and hints of minerality. A refreshing and crisp white that pairs well with seafood or to have solo as an aperitif.

Castello Trebbio Chianti Superiore

A flavoursome wine that pairs well with red meats and pasta dishes. Sangiovese is blended with Canaiolo, Colorino and Ciliegiolo and aged for 6 months in large Slavonian oak barrels. Red berry fruit with notes of rosemary and spice with some minerality – a little above medium bodied with fine grained tannins.

Benanti Etna Bianco

100% Carricante made with no oak showing the full character of the grape and land. Stone fruit with marked saline acidity and a slight nutty character – long and persistent with great freshness and energy. A brilliant food wine.

Corte Adami Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore

This is an elegant, complex and satisfying Ripasso. Dark cherry fruit combines with wild herbs, warming Christmas cake spices and dark chocolate notes. Rich and round on the palate with ample body and smooth round tannins.

Marina Cvetic Montepulciano d’Abruzzo

A big, complex Md’A. Medium plus to full bodied, it is rich, concentrated and powerful. Ripe black cherry & plum, licorice spice, chocolate, leather & smoke with a long, fresh finish. Definitely one for food - red meat preferably.

Domenico Clerico Barolo

An amazingly consistent Barolo that delivers a lot of power, complexity and enjoyment. Made from 40-45 year old Nebbiolo vines the post fermentation ageing process takes place in barriques and 50hl large oak barrels before a further ageing in bottle. The wine shows an amazingly complex array of aromatics ranging from red & black fruit to savoury leather, and from smoky tobacco to spicy notes. This is Nebbiolo showing its powerful personality in a full bodied, complex and age worthy wine. Best after a decant.
