Wedesday 13 Sep
Depart Dublin at 0545 and travel with KLM to Moscow via Amsterdam. Arrive Moscow at 1600. You will be met at the airport and escorted to your hotel. Your hotel for the next 3 nights on B&B basis is the 4-star Hotel Sovetsky http://www.sovietsky.ru/en/ . The evening is free for you to dine out or explore Moscow.
Thursday 14 Sep
Breakfast at hotel. This morning, visit the Lenin Mausoleum in Red Square followed by an out-of-town tour to Gorki Leninskie. This town is famous for the large museum complex dedicated to Vladimir Lenin. This lovely 18th Century estate was Lenin’s residence until his death in 1924 and features many of Lenin’s personal belongings. On the grounds there is a fascinating exposition of Russian suburban life in the 19th – 20th Centuries. Lunch is included after the visit.
In the afternoon, you return to Moscow for a panoramic tour of the city, visiting many of the revolutionary sites. Return to your hotel early evening. The rest of the day is free to explore the restaurants and bars of Moscow.
Friday 15 Sep
Breakfast at hotel. This morning visit the Kremlin grounds including one of the Cathedrals. This is followed by a visit to the Armoury Chamber. Afterwards you will visit the nearby Tretyakov Gallery with its collection of Russian fine arts and icons, which are not to be found anywhere else. Pavel Tretyakov, a wealthy Moscow merchant donated his collection to the Russian Nation. It includes paintings, graphics and icons.
Rest of the evening is free.
Saturday 16 Sep
Breakfast at hotel. This morning, you check-out of your hotel and leave to see the stunning places that make up the Moscow metro (underground). These stations are as much works of art and architectural excellence as they are functioning metro stations. This is followed by a visit to Arbat, which is a pedestrian street in the historical centre of Moscow. Noted for its street traders and numerous restaurants and bars, it is a very popular spot for visitors. Afterwards, you will be taken to the Railway Station for your Sapsan high-speed train to St. Petersburg. On arrival there, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Your accommodation for the next 4 nights (B&B) will be at the 4-star Hotel Oktyabrskaya http://www.oktober-hotel.spb.ru/oktober.nsf/en/main . Rest of the evening free to explore the restaurants and bars of St. Petersburg.
Sunday 17 Sep
Breakfast at hotel. This morning take a tour of the Winter Palace and Hermitage. Former home of the Romanov Emperors, this is the finest and most famous palace in Russia. The Hermitage Museum is one of the world’s best known museums and houses an enormous collection of world masterpieces.
In the afternoon, visit the Battleship Aurora – a symbol of the 1917 Revolution. Her blank shot on 25th October signalled the start of the assault on the Winter Palace, which began the Revolution. It is now a museum. Return to the hotel mid-afternoon.
Evening free to explore St Petersburg.
Monday 18 Sep
Breakfast at hotel. This morning, head out to the suburbs of St Petersburg to visit the majestic Russian baroque Catherine’s Palace. Marvel at its incredibly luxurious interiors, including the legendary Amber Room, faced with natural amber of different colours. Russia’s great poet, Pushkin, studied and won his first fame while here. In the afternoon enjoy a tour of a part of St. Petersburg including Nevsky Prospect, The Admiralty, St Isaac’ Cathedral, Church of Our Saviour of Spilled Blood, Anichkov Bridge and other highlights of the city.

Tuesday 19 Sep
Breakfast at hotel. This morning you will continue your exploration of St Petersburg along with a visit to the birthplace of this wonderful city – The Peter & Paul Fortress. Built by Emperor Peter the Great in 1703 as a fortress, it never fulfilled its original mission but was later used as Russia’s main political jail. Parts of the former jail are now open to the public. Visit the impressive Peter & Paul cathedral, the burial ground for many Russian Emperors and Empresses. Today is it home to St Petersburg Historical museum.
Rest of the day free.
Wednesday 20 Sep
Breakfast at hotel and check out. You will have the whole day free to explore this fabulous city or pick up some souvenirs. Afternoon departure from the hotel to the airport for flight departing at 1720. Fly with KLM via Amsterdam, arriving in Dublin at 2200.
