Wine your way down the Rhone. With h2gwines.ie

€124 delivered. Was €150. Save €26

Our Rhone wine case takes you on a journey of around 200km from Crozes Hermitage in the Northern Rhone right down to Costieres de Nimes at the very bottom of the Southern Rhone - not too far from the Mediterranean. Taste Syrah based wines from the cooler continental climate of the north to the wines of the hot Mediterranean that use Grenache and a range of other grapes.

This case contains 6 great wines from different appellations along the river Rhone including Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage and Cotes du Rhone Villages.

We hope you like these wines. Please let us know what you think at

Wine details:

CHATEAU L'ERMITe D’AUZAN Blanc

When we first tasted this elegant white wine the most striking feature was the balance of ripe, sweet tropical fruit with refreshing acidity. It is a blend of 60% Roussanne, 20% Viognier and 20% Grenache. Peach and apricot mix effortlessly with lovely lemon and lime – the benefits of being near the sea in a hot climate. 3 months lees aging has given this wine a textured mouth feel and a satisfying finish.

CHATEAU L'ERMIte D’AUZAN Rouge

This blend of Syrah, Mourvedre and Grenache punches way above its price bracket. It has a good balance of both fruit and savoury qualities and all colours of fruit – red, black and blue together with spice, licorice and black olives. The heat of the sun is tempered by refreshing acidity and a mineral finish. Good to keep for a few years or to enjoy now.

DOMAINE CHANTEPIERRE, COTES DU RHONE

A blend of 60% Grenache along with Syrah, Carignan and Mourvèdre. Paul Sanches makes the wines from vineyards near Châteauneuf du Pape and Avignon. Fermentation is in stainless steel tanks with frequent pumping over. The result is a lush, rich and smooth Cotes du Rhone. Dark crimson in colour with a trademark peppery nose of ripe red fruit.

DOMAINE Galevan, l’ESPRIT DEVIN, COTES DU RHONE VILLAGES

A Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre blend aged for 15 months in barrel. A more full bodied wine than the CDR with black fruits (black cherry) and fruits of the forest to the fore. Notes of black forest gateau, liquorice, camphor and lavender with some meaty black olive hints. The tannins are well integrated into the full bodied but never overpowering frame.

DOMAINE DES HAUTS CHASSIS, esquisse, CROZES-HERMITAGE

The first thing you’ll notice about this Northern Rhone Syrah is the fruit – the distinct aroma of blueberries and plums along with violets. This is followed by creamy chocolate and spice. And this continues to the palate with the heady flavor of sweet, ripe plums, prunes and earth. The wine is very well balanced and structured. Integrated, with soft, silky tannin and very manageable acidity with reasonably low alcohol at 13% ABV. Open an hour before drinking to let the aromas and flavours unfold.

DOMAINE DURAND, SAINT- JOSEPH, LES COTEAUX

Syrah is the only red grape grown by brothers Eric and Joel Durand on their 20Ha domaine. All the work is manual as the vines are planted on steep hills. The vines for Les Coteaux are 15 to 25 years old, planted on granite based soils with a south-south-east aspect. After fermentation the wine is aged in both large and small oak casks for 12 months. The 2019 is deep in colour with aromas of concentrated ripe red fruit and sweet spice. It is rich, round and smooth on the palate with rounded tannins and a nice minerally finish.
